Variety is Everything – Complacency is Absent

It’s been two months since I wrote one of these – apologies to Mrs Holly – hate to keep my reader on tenterhooks. It’s been a busy old start to 2016 – with no sign of work drying up yet, but I remain in a state the can best be described as ‘the opposite to complacent’…

I’m absolutely loving the variety each week brings.  So far this year I’ve project managed a very exciting & successful Young Producers project involving the City of London Sinfonia and multiple partners which was also streamed live from Lincoln Drill Hall; I’ve worked with my colleague Charlie Kemp from Open Plan on creating a new Case for Culture in Lincolnshire that we hope will be launched before Easter; I’ve continued to work as part of the Gravity Fields Festival Production Team (we’re about to launch what promises to be a very exciting 5 days in Grantham in September); I’ve been part of 1215.Today‘s first ‘Innovation Lab‘ that took place in Leeds (next one is in Lincoln on 11 June but there are loads of other ways to get involved now too); I’ve been involved in discussions with Transported & Live&Local around rural touring in south Lincolnshire; I’ve done some more work with the team at the Brewhouse Arts Centre in Burton-on-Trent (including a very interesting day with Dr Jane Mackay and 160 GCSE retake students…); I’ve set up a concert on 15 May at Doddington Hall with the amazing violinist Tamsin Waley Cohen that I am producing (now on sale via Doddington Hall) and I helped manage the Dance Factor Lincolnshire Party at the Embassy Centre in Skegness.

And I reckon I’ve probably taken part in more than 150 meetings since Christmas, both virtual and physical…. my life is soooooo full of meetings… isn’t everyone’s?

March sees me start a new role as the Producer of Green Fields Beyond a large-scale and very exciting  outdoor WW1 project taking place this summer in and around Lincoln Castle (quite a lot more meetings I suspect) and also sees the latest Mash Up event for Lincoln based creative professionals taking place at ‘Home‘ on Park Street on Tues 8th March from 4.30pm, following straight on from the second Lincoln Culture Conference that same day at the Alive Church. Please spread the word about the MashUp – the more people who attend the better & more useful it becomes #lincolnartsmashup

I’m loving the freelance way of life but learning not to take anything for granted (and that includes you, dear reader) If variety is the spice of life perhaps complacency is its bland and dangerous nemesis.
